María Cristina Lopez Roberts has designed projects for orchid conservation in the Bolivia 's cloud forests, where she has also researched mycorrhizal fungi of orchids endemic to the Yungas.
She is currently a professor at the Universidad Mayor Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca, and is leading a study on the diversity of leaf-degrading fungi in the dry forests of Chuquisaca, Bolivia
